From Childhood Dreams to Career
I grew up in small town Maine, and of my most treasured childhood memories relate to my early fascination with broadcasting and writing! I would constantly try to tape record the evening news on television, and my trusty boom box tuned to my favorite local radio station followed me around the house at all times in whatever room I was in. My love of writing and entrepreneurial spirit also blossomed elementary school, when I started writing a newsletter for kids my age called Child News, that I'd sell to my neighbors and local friends for 25 cents an issue.
My obsession with radio specifically reached new heights when I was in the second grade. My dad had the opportunity to record some PSAs for his workplace at the company that owned my two favorite radio stations: Portland Maine's WJBQ Q97.9 and 94.9 WHOM. He took me with him to the station, and while he was in production, the afternoon host of Q97.9 gave me a tour of my favorite stations! I still remember being in awe of getting to see the radio equipment and studio firsthand. I was allowed to pick out a CD to take home from the prize closet at the end of my tour. I chose Enrique Inglesias' Escape... and that CD still sits on my desk at work to this day!
Many years later, I followed my radio dreams to college in Charlotte, North Carolina. I had a two year internship in college with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation at Levine Children's Hospital. Following undergrad, I attended the Connecticut School of Broadcasting's Charlotte Campus for their Radio and TV program. During my time at CSB, I was able to intern for The MRL Show on KISS 95.1 in Charlotte.
After finishing at CSB, I moved in 2017 to the Burlington/Plattsburgh market up north for my first full-time radio job! I did afternoons on The New Hot 96.7, and weekends and morning show fill-ins on heritage AC Star 92.9. In 2018, I had the opportunity to return to the South to do afternoons on 92.7 C-Ville Country in Charlottesville, Virginia. In December 2018, I was promoted to co-host for a new morning show on the AC station in the cluster. Since then, I've been lucky to be one half of the Z95.1 Morning Show with Marc and Anna Lise!
I feel lucky to have had experience in CHR, AC and Country radio in the first few years of my career, as well as getting to try different day-parts. Someday I dream of being on-air in a major market, and being nationally syndicated!
In addition to radio, I've run my lifestyle blog Southern Belle in Training since 2012. What started as a college hobby has turned into a full-blown side hustle. I write 3-5 new blog posts every week, as well as maintaining an active Instagram account. I've had the chance to partner with many fantastic brands and retailers like Vera Bradley, Belk, Neutrogena, Talbots and more. I write about many topics including fashion, travel, home decor, and of course radio and career updates!
